Bespak and GSK have celebrated the production of the 500 millionth Diskus device manufactured at Bespak’s facility in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, UK.
The Diskus is a dry powder inhaler device used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and is marketed by them under various trade names including Advair in USA and Seretide in Europe. Bespak are one of GSK’s main suppliers of the device.
GSK’s Ware Site Director, Graham Johnson and his team were hosted at Bespak’s manufacturing plant in King’s Lynn where they inspected the facility, spoke with the dedicated workforce and exchanged commemorative gifts with the Bespak team led by Joe Barry, Managing Director of Bespak.
Bespak were the original manufacturers of this long-standing and highly successful device and have been making them at their factory in King’s Lynn for some 15 years. During this time they have moulded all the components that comprise the device before assembling them into the product. During this period in excess of 7 billion individual components have been moulded and assembled by Bespak. Every moulded piece and assembled device is inspected on the line by sophisticated optical and other testing systems.
Celebrations continue at this time for GSK who also celebrate the building of their one billionth Diskus worldwide.
